Contains chiefly volumes of newspaper cuttings collected by the Australian Women Pilots' Association about women fliers, particularly in Australia during the 1950s and 1960s . Also includes a collection of newspaper cuttings, letters and photographs about Jean Batten's visit to Australia and New Zealand in 1970 and also a list of pilot licence numbers and signatures of foundation members of the Association who were present at the inaugural meeting held at Royal Aero Club of N.S.W., 1950 Sept. 16.

Jean Batten was born on 15 September 1909 in Rotorua, New Zealand. She and her mother moved from New Zealand to Britain in 1930 where Batten immediately pursued her ambition of learning to fly. In 1934, she flew solo from England to Australia in 14 days, 22½ hours, shattering Amy Johnson’s record by four days and becoming a world celebrity.
